If your dogs get an invite, don't let the bedbugs bite

Today's question:

Suppose you took your dogs to visit a house infested with bedbugs. Could the bugs get on your dogs and ride them back to your place?
First of all, I can't possibly imagine taking Dumb and Dumber for a casual visit to a friend's house. Not if I valued the friendship. It is true I have left them with friends for extended stays when I'm away, but just drop in with them? I don't think so.
Next, as to whether your dogs could get infested with bedbugs, yes and no.
If they get hungry enough, bedbugs will set upon any warm-blooded animal, even birds. However, they prefer to dine on humans because they seem to be more readily available, and because human blood is easier for them to digest. I don't know why that is.
If your dog or cat did pick up bedbugs, the bugs will suck some blood and then find another place to hide.
One thing I read said you can vacuum your pets to get rid of the bugs. I don't know about your pets, but mine wouldn't let me get within 10 feet of them with a vacuum cleaner.
Before you start dousing your pets with chemicals, talk with your vet.
I see many license plates in the Valley that have been altered. It appears as though the background paint has been removed, possibly with steel wool. The letters and numbers remain visible, but the background paint is gone. Do you know why this is being done?
Sometimes our summer sun can cause the paint on plates of older cars to peel.
However, some people put some type of cover over their plates because they think this will block the plates from being read by photo-enforcement cameras.
 It's against the rules.
