CRIVITZ, WI -- It takes up an entire room and looks like a gigantic mailbox but it may be the solution to bedbugs.

It's the Bedbug Inferno, a new prototype built in Crivitz, Wisconsin specializing in killing bedbugs.

"You don't have to throw your mattress in a landfill anymore. You don't have to throw your furniture away," said inventor and company co-owner Tom Wiedemeier. "You can heat treat it and put it right back in your room or your home. We can send 10 mattresses through the oven in about an hour."

The machine works like an oven but only reaches temperatures of about 120 degrees, hot enough to kill bedbugs without destroying your furniture.

The Bedbug Inferno prototype began operating in March and through tests so far has proven to be 100 percent effective at killing bedbugs.

The machine was originally designed to heat treat firewood.

"Bedbugs never really occurred to me," said fellow inventor and co-owner Troy Wiedemeier. "I heard about it and I kind of laughed about it until we looked into how big of a problem it was."

The Bedbug Inferno is for sale right now, and is being distributed by Project Services Incorporated in Iron Mountain which is already taking orders.

While the $124,000 price tag may seem hefty, PSI insists it's built to last and is worth every penny for companies dealing with bedbugs.

"There are a lot of heat treater systems out there that can help with the problem but it doesn't cure their problem," said PSI Salesman George Pond. "Our system fixes the problem."

A portable version of the bedbug inferno is also in the works.
